Summary / Role Purpose
The R&D Verification Engineer II joins the Mechanical Business Unit to conduct software testing of ANSYS applications such as MAPDL. This role assesses how well the product meets customer needs both in terms of functionality and usability and ensures that product requirements and quality standards are satisfied. The role works closely with other members of the product creation team and communicates with technical specialists on product issues. The R&D Verification engineer researches new engineering features to create analytical and user scenario test cases to evaluate the functionality and performance of capabilities being added to our engineering simulation software. As part of the software testing of Mechanical APDL application, an R&D Verification engineer programs and maintains automated testing scripts and software tools. This person participates in requirements planning, design reviews and investigating defects.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Specify and write test cases, create, modify, and update existing tests, write and maintain test scripts
- Perform functional, application, regression, and performance testing in manual and/or automated test environments and investigate possible causes of problems
- Create test plans, participate in defect management and testing metrics
- Apply standard techniques and procedures and comply with the company’s overall development and testing processes
- Work in a variety of computing environments: Windows, Linux, Virtual, Compute Clusters, Cloud
- Analyze requirements and develop tests suitable for new features within the MAPDL product. Research literature for reference solutions.
- Participate in design and code reviews and in the planning and implementation of verification initiatives
- Improve and deploy testing strategies and methodologies for the automation of tests
- Work closely with other members of the product creation team and communicate with technical support specialists on product issues
- Coordinates with other teams to address cross-team dependencies
Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience
- BS in Mechanical, Civil, Structural, or Aerospace Engineering with 2 years of experience, or Master’s Degree
- Academic background in Continuum/Structural Mechanics and Numerical Methods
- Two (2) years of experience in a related position performing linear and nonlinear finite element analysis
- Must be located near Ansys HQ in Canonsburg, PA (Hybrid)
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
- Technical knowledge and experience with the usage of ANSYS APDL in an engineering environment
- Proficiency in one or more scripting languages such as Python, bash, or Perl
- Experience with the usage of HPC (High-Performance Computing) clusters and job schedulers, such as Slurm
- Passion for hardware details and a keen interest in staying current on CPU, GPU, MPI, and HPC cluster interconnects
- Good attention to detail and ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects and workstreams
- Ability to work autonomously, passion for exploring new topics, and strong troubleshooting skills
- Demonstrated ability to identify and improve workflow efficiency
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to learn quickly and to collaborate with others in a geographically distributed team
