On August 6, GlobalFoundries announced in its second quarter 2025 financial report released yesterday local time that as part of its "In China for China" strategy, it has reached a final agreement with a local Chinese wafer foundry to provide reliable supply to GlobalFoundries' customers in mainland China.

GlobalFoundries said that under the framework of this cooperation agreement, customers will benefit from its automotive-grade process technology and manufacturing expertise to meet domestic demand in China.

According to the detailed explanation given by GlobalFoundries executives in the earnings call, the cooperation with local Chinese wafer foundries will initially focus on automotive-grade CMOS technology; the target orders will be the needs of domestic and foreign semiconductor companies in China; and customers will not need to redevelop and tape out wafers to switch wafer foundries.

GlobalFoundries' revenue in the second quarter of this year was US$1.688 billion, a 3% year-on-year increase and a 6% quarter-on-quarter increase. GlobalFoundries shipped 581,000 12-inch wafer equivalents, a 12% year-on-year increase and a 7% quarter-on-quarter increase. The company stated that it is still waiting for the consumer electronics end market to resume meaningful growth.
