As usual I check in on Accellera activities each year at DVCon. Lu Dai (chair) gave an opening talk at the Accellera lunch, with contributions from other speakers on a few topics. In the afternoon I heard an update on PSS 3.0. What follows is a quick summary with my own musings on behavioral coverage.
Notable non-PSS topics

From my viewpoint, standards organizations in semiconductor design always looked like they were “sharpening the saw”: further polishing/refining what we already have but not often pushing on frontiers. Very necessary of course to stabilize and get common agreement in standards but equally always seeming to be behind the innovation… Read More
I’m a fan of DVCon, a fan of Accellera and a fan of Munich, hosting DVCon Europe once again. This year’s event runs from November 14th through 15th (with some events on the 16th) at the Holiday Inn Munich in the City Center. Phillippe Notton (CEO, SiPearl) will deliver a keynote on “Energy Efficient High-Performance Computing in the… Read More
I have a new-found respect for Lu Dai. He is a senior director of engineering at Qualcomm, with valuable insight into the ground realities of verification in a big semiconductor company. He is on the board of directors at RISC-V International and is chairman of the board of directors at Accellera, both giving him a top-down view of… Read More
Dan is joined by Lu Dai who is currently a Senior Director of Technical Standards at Qualcomm. Previously he was Senior Director of Engineering, leading Qualcomm’s SoC design verification team and front-end methodologies and initiatives. Lu is Chair of Accellera Systems Initiative and serves on the Board of Directors at RISC-V… Read More
I recently had an update from Lu Dai, Chairman of Accellera, also Sr. Director of Engineering at Qualcomm. He’s always a pleasure to talk to, in this instance giving me a capsule summary of status in 3 areas that interested me: CDC, Functional Safety and AMS. I will start with CDC, a new proposed working group in Accellera. To manage… Read More
Normally I would post this Accellera update during DVCon US but, no surprise, this year is weird. Particularly in conferences going virtual. The last DVCon was in early March of this year, right on the cusp of the shutdown. I was there in person, as was Lu Dai (Chairman of Accellera). Both Synopsys and Cadence had dropped out, citing… Read More
I managed a few meetings at DVCon this year in spite of the Coronavirus problems. One of these was with Lu Dai Chairman of Accellera. I generally meet with Lu each year to get an update on where they are headed, and he had some interesting new topics to share.
Membership and headcount remain pretty stable. Any changes (at the associate… Read More
One of the fun things about what I do is getting to meet some of the movers and shakers in the industry. You might not think of Accellera as a spot to find movers and shakers, but when you consider the impact they have had on what we do (OVL, SystemVerilog, UVM, UPF, SystemC, IP-XACT and others), design today would be unrecognizable without… Read More
