R&D Verification Engineer II

SUMMARY
The R&D Verification Engineer II joins the Electronics and Optics team to conduct software testing of Ansys Optics applications such as Lumerical, and interoperability with other Ansys Optics products such as Speos and Zemax. This role assesses how well the product meets customer needs both in terms of functionality and usability and ensures that product requirements and quality standards are satisfied. The role works closely with other members of the product R&D teams and communicates with technical specialists on product issues.
This role will contribute to the development of internal tools used to automate testing of Ansys software, quality processes, and assist other teams in performing automated application testing.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Specify and write test cases, creates, modify, and update existing tests, write and maintain test scripts
- Perform functional, application, regression, and performance testing in manual and/or automated test environments and investigate possible causes of problems
- Create test plans, participate in defect management and testing metrics
- Apply standard techniques and procedures and comply with the company’s overall development and testing processes
- Work in a variety of computing environments: Windows, Linux, VM’s, Compute Clusters, Amazon and Azure Clouds
- Report defects, reproduce defects reported by other teams, follow up and verify fixes
- Performs other duties as assigned to improve the overall quality of Ansys products
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- BS in Optics or Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or related field with 2 years of experience, or MS with no experience
- Previous experience in quality assurance or software development roles
- Technical knowledge and experience with Python, C++, MATLAB, and/or other programming and scripting languages
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in a large-scale commercial software testing and verification environment
- Experience with electromagnetics simulation tools
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to learn quickly and to collaborate with others in a geographically distributed team
- A thorough and careful approach to work; close attention to detail and quality
- Experience in working in agile teams following methods like Scrum or Kanban
- Experience using defect tracking software such as ADO (TFS), Jira, Bugzilla, or similar
- Experience with continuous integration systems such as Bamboo, Jenkins, or similar
- Experience using revision control tools such as Git, Bitbucket, or similar
- Experience with automated testing frameworks as Squish, Selenium, or similar
- Experience using Ansys Lumerical or other Ansys products is an asset
- A background in photonics is an asset
