Why TSMC Will Keep Its Roots in Taiwan, Even as It Goes Global

I know lots of people in HK. For most it doesn't change their day to day life very much. Many people there actually support integration with China. But some people feel a serious loss of freedom. Personally I think it's inevitable that Taiwan is eventually integrated into China, and we should hope it's a peaceful reintegration.
because alot of the young and freedom loving Hong Kongers were driven into exile or prison....

Yeah, fair enough. But China these days isn't that bad. If you play by the CCP rules you can live a good life. People don't just get thrown in jail or exile for no reason, just kiss the ring and everything is fine.

any "deal" with china isnt worth the paper its written on. Just look at Hong Kong. The CCP will do the same if not worse.
Taiwan is on a different level than Hong Kong. It's a bigger prize, and taking Taiwan by force would be on another level altogether, and there might not be much left of value in Taiwan if force was used. So both sides are motivated. And the person calling the shots in Beijing is an autocrat trying to make a legacy. I think the possibilities are broader than other people think, I admit that, and I know I've floated a theory off the beaten track. But the whole Taiwan situation is weird and unique. The next steps might be too.

I hope the status quo lasts indefinitely, but that seems unlikely to me.

Xinjiang has an ongoing genocide, people are publicly shamed on electronic billboards if they have debt issues, people assigned social credit scores which define which public services you are allowed to use, arbitrary legal system, full censorship and a party chairman that just made himself emperor for life. Yes things are surely not bad lmaooo. If by dystopian hellscape is not “bad” you mean

From this article, what I take away is how much TSMC does with a few thousand people per node. So much value is in the people, plus the expensive equipment required to make a node happen, plus the culture that lets you do that over and over successfully.

Bringing it back to boring politics, that careful balance between people, expensive equipment and culture is harder to achieve in authoritarian regiemes, but the Soviets did it in some fields. Like rockets, space generally. I think the key is not to build an empire, since empires fall, you should build an ecosystem. That ecosystem building is something red China could learn from blue China.

A lot of what you hear is propaganda, I won't deny there are problems in China, but they do not impact most ordinary Chinese people. Ultimately there is a tradeoff being made between peoples freedoms and stability. There is less freedom in China, but there is more safety and stability. They don't have mass shootings, opiate crises, health crisis, ect. Most ordinary people have a good life, and if you ever visit China you'd know that to be a fact.

China releases TV documentary showcasing army's ability to attack Taiwan

TAIPEI, Taiwan — China has released a new documentary about the army’s preparation to attack Taiwan and showcasing soldiers pledging to give up their lives if needed as Beijing continues to ramp up its rhetoric against the self-ruled island.

“Chasing Dreams,” an eight-part docuseries aired by state broadcaster CCTV earlier this week to mark the People Liberation Army’s 96th anniversary, features military drills and testimonials by dozens of soldiers, of which several express their willingness to die in a potential attack against Taiwan.

I wonder if the world is going to wait until Taiwan is attacked before doing something, like they did for Ukraine?

The world isn't exactly doing nothing, as the technology export restrictions count as pressure on China. But if you're specifically referring to military action, I think the world will wait until China attacks.

The world know it rest on the internals of China.
If CCP think things going OK then why rock boat by starting a war?
If the situation deteriorate to folk on the streets and it making global news , then they may feel for the sake of the party to retain power starting a war is the only option they have left.
Look at Putin invading Ukraine , can only imagine how dire things were there for him to start a.war.

Perhaps Putin just didn't want a NATO base threatening his southern border, as Putin and his predecessors told us.
Threaten to do what?

Nobody is going to attack Russia , US or China no matter what the idiots who run those countries think.

Sadly their populations seem easily convinced though.

So you think Putan started the war "for the sake of the party to retain power"?

Thats far more believable than a never going to happen invasion.

If I was Putin I would be sweating as all tje ex-USSR states that were on the road to destruction under the Russian Jackboot one by one join EU and become functioning members of Europe.

The commies have spunked all their natural resources on weapons , women , super yachts and sportsteams.

Putin and his cronies know they in big trouble when the people get themselves sorted same with the commies in China.

So Putin should be sweating because their neighbors are going to join the EU? Hmmm... so what might he do?

He is on the path to destroying Ukraine , fortunately for the Baltic States and a number of other Eastern European Nations setback many years due to the Russians they have been able to get into the EU and are now functioning parts of Europe and managed to retain an identity that the Russians saought to remove.

So your suggestion seems to be placate these authoratarian clowns and tell countries bordering them , sorry but best you stay in the 3rd world to keep your neighbour happy.

I didn't suggest what we should do. I suggested why he invaded. I don't think it was because "dire things were there for him".
