Swatch is about to unveil its Smartwatch in a few months possibly against Apple Watch debut.
Swatch CEO, Nick Hayek plans to go head-to-head with Apple. The Swatch Smartwatch will have
internet communication features, mobile payments and others. It will work with windows as well as
Android software with all relevant technologies such as sensors, display, long lasting battery, and so on.

Hayek was not too enthusiastic about smartwatch's potential. However, after seeing its potential to reach $10B market by 2018, he has big plans of leading Smartwatch market against the top 'considered' rival, Apple. Can it triumph the Smartwatch market?

Well, if I consider from watch perspective as such, definitely Swatch is a watch icon and they would have learnt the nerves of watch consumers. To complement that if they can add 'geek' technology of today, such as health monitoring, fitness tracking, and so on, may be they can win. We may see other watch features in Swatch like compass, navigation for divers, etc. which other watches may not have.

But definitely, it will be a clash of titans - watch icon Vs mobile tech icon! We need to watch the game of Smartwatch!

Battery-powered, feature watches with electronic displays have been around since the late 1970's, and even Intel bought the ill-fated Microma to get into the watch business briefly. Since a watch is a personal accessory, the market is highly fragmented by price, features and the all important looks. Consumers are fickly, so all the best to Swatch for adding something of interest.
