Nvidia, Qualcomm and Broadcom Platform Companies?

It looks like Nvidia, Qualcomm and Broadcom are more and more becoming platform companies to support products using their chips. Any thoughts, observations, and opinions of this are this wanted. Will they incorporate platform layers to support their customers and increase market share? Any thoughts or comments on this apprecieated.
