MOOCS and Education, The Future

Arthur Hanson

Just like many developing countries largely skipped over land lines and went directly to cell phones, the same will happen to education. The traditional college/university system is going to adapt or become increasingly obsolete. It's to expensive, time consuming and slow to adapt. Massively Open Online Courses will provide even lab work in the future through virtual reality or robotic online labs which will better prepare students for a changing future than current labs. This will change not only education, but industry. Robotic labs will be more compact, efficient in numerous ways and versatile at far lower costs. Remote education will present large opportunities in the semi sector every step of the way from improved smart phones with more and better of everything from processors to memory to display and connectivity. The same will be true of the data centers and robotic/virtual labs that support this educational system. Much of this will spill over into industry and change the very nature of how companies are put together. Just like we now have foundries to assemble chips, we will have contract labs in VR and robotics that provide time, space and equipment on a contract basis at a fraction of the cost now paid due to far better utilization and efficiencies. The educational system, much of which is rooted in the past, much due to government regulation by pay to play special interests will soon change despite this. Organizations/countries will either change or fall behind. Comments, additions and thoughts wanted and solicited.
