If one closed loop controller is good, two are better. That's the thinking behind Microchip's new PIC16(L)F1769 family. By adding a dual-channel programmable ramp generator, the MCU can respond with nanosecond resolution. Microchip is targeting advanced power management, LED and automotive lighting, and other applications.

Built around the 8-bit PIC16 core with 14 KB of program memory and 1K of RAM is a range of digital and analog peripherals. These include a 10-bit A/D, a 5 bit and 10 bit D/A, comparators and op amps, 10- and 16-bit PWMs, The part is packaged in a 14- or 20-pin package in a variety of formats. Sampling is now, pricing starts at $0.87 in 10K quantities.
