if there is a geo conflict, I do not believe having Intel fabs will matter. 80% of compute and phone equipment is built in China or Taiwan. If those are damaged or disappear. I wont be worried about my fab ownership. Every company has well thought out supply chain risk mitigation strategies. Just an opinion

I think we can still be able to buy phones just the ownership of the fabs would be different. Intel's fabs will be a differentiator in that case. Hence I see it as a put option. But to control costs, Intel should not underwrite insurance for free for other market participants. If they want protection, they have to pay for the service.
