TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Nvidia Corporation CEO Jensen Huang (黃仁勳) thanked Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company at its annual sports day Saturday for its help in founding his company.
For his fourth visit to Taiwan this year, Huang flew in to Tainan Friday to tour TSMC’s advanced 3-nanometer fab in the southern city. After the tour, he had dinner with top TSMC executives.
Speaking ahead of the TSMC sports day at Hsinchu County Stadium Saturday morning, he described Nvidia and TSMC as members of one family who had grown up together, the Liberty Times reported. Nvidia was TSMC’s eternal partner, he added.
At the event, Huang was seated next to TSMC Chair C.C. Wei (魏哲家), but against expectations, company founder Morris Chang (張忠謀) was not present at the annual event. Wei told the crowd that Chang and his wife were not able to come because he had been slightly unwell, CNA reported.
Responding to questions about what the two tech leaders had discussed, Wei said Nvidia wanted more chips, but the amount was a secret, per CNA. Huang was scheduled to leave Taiwan on Saturday at noon to return home to the US.
The Nvidia CEO did not comment on his company’s plan to locate a headquarters in Taipei. Deputy Mayor Lee Shu-chuan (李四川) said Saturday he was optimistic the city could sign a land rights agreement with Shin Kong Life Insurance by Nov. 14 to allow Nvidia to move into Beitou-Shilin Technology Park, per UDN.
