Intel's Foundry Business discloses a $7B operating loss

My question is this. IFS is losing money hand over fist. And Intel products are losing market share to AMD and bespoke big tech ARM designs. Intel products is the only profitable segment, and it is under assault from all sides. How does intel expect to fund the unprofitable fab business for the...

Japan approves $3.9 billion in subsidies for chipmaker Rapidus

Essentially my thoughts. They are taking the logical steps for a fruitless endeavour basically. I don’t see any scenario where Rapidus is a remotely significant manufacturer of leading logic. It’s just a very strange initiative in all respects for me.

Japan approves $3.9 billion in subsidies for chipmaker Rapidus

Does anyone really think this (Rapidus) is a good idea?

UK Government to invest £14M in power semi packaging

These numbers are honestly hilarious ☠️

China Deals a Blow to Intel's Turnaround

These articles are so garbage. The 26% revenue number takes into account every part that comes into China including for the means of assembly of laptops, desktops etc. I’m an Intel skeptic but man these articles almost seem intentionally misleading.

    Questions regarding semiconductor manufacturing

Because transistors are three dimensional objects that need to be constructed and then etched out to provide channels through out.

Big Tech focuses on in-house chips: Here's what you need to know

I’ve seen much worse reports and it was generally informative for the uninformed masses. The part about tweezers did make me laugh though ☠️

Huawei Patent Shows 6x Multi-Patterning Surpassing EUV Resolution Without EUV

I guess it works but it seems like an exceedingly inefficient and uneconomical way of going about things. Hard to believe they could ever turn a profit that way but I guess the CCP will bankroll them

    TSMC 2024 Technology Symposium

Biggest event of the year IMO. Can't wait to hear more about 2NM and BPD

Intel to get $8.5B from the CHIPS Act

Disagree. 3nm slipped 6 months or at most a year. Intel 10nm slipped 5 years. Not at all the same level of f up

Everyone wants the latest chips. That’s causing a huge headache for the world’s biggest supplier

As to the last part. That would be the anti Pat Gelsinger lol. Everything about the way he talks about competitors and customers just rubs me the wrong way. So much confidence for a company that really hasn’t show much of any results

Intel to get $8.5B from the CHIPS Act

I wonder what TSMC is going to get and when they’ll announce it.

Progress being made at TSMC Phoenix site

Hey Dan why do you think nvidia went to N4P for Blackwell instead of N3 or N3E? Is it so they can keep an upgrade path so they can have another easy leap in performance when they move down to N3P or something?

Nvidia introduces Blackwell (800mm2 reticle limit N4P dies)

Great points. I guess I was thinking about things in the traditionally price sensitive context. With such dominance nvidia can charge whatever they want for these

TSMC Bulls Ignore Buffett’s Warning and Stick to AI Bet

This was my same reaction. It made no sense. Apple still craters to the center of the earth in a Taiwan invasion scenario as does the rest of the stock market because WW3 is likely on. And in that case why are you even trying to risk manage your portfolio when WW3 is on?

Nvidia introduces Blackwell (800mm2 reticle limit N4P dies)

Hitting the reticle limit is more than a little concerning. I’d hope nvidia is deep into development of disaggregated dies

TSMC to collaborate with SK Hynix on HBM4

Makes a lot of sense for TSMC to find allies at this moment. Win win for both
