GlobalFoundries chief says tariffs could benefit US chipmakers

what exactly does the tariff say? does it matter who the owner is? how is the value assigned? Surely someone know...

GlobalFoundries chief says tariffs could benefit US chipmakers

I am not sure what GF does in servers, smart phones or PCs. that is the majority of the market. What does GF sell to?

Trump Calls for End to $52 Billion Chips Act Subsidy Program

The pollution thing may have been a reason for california. It is not for the US. Every project I have seen that was put into other countries had billions in difference from subsidies that was the determining factor in the decisions. What people don't understand with the "if you want to do...

Trump Calls for End to $52 Billion Chips Act Subsidy Program

Trump believes in punishing tariffs, not incentives. Semiconductors are so capital intensive, you need incentives. Tariffs are a war, incentives are partnership. If you do not want to provide incentives, Micron, Intel, GF, Samsung will gladly build in other countries. Why is there not...

Tariff rates on final goods for dummies

Actually do don't even need to do SMT. there are other ways to do "made in country" (transformation)..... completely crazy and completely legal. SSDs are one of the most fun ones we did.

    Panther lake delay?

100% agree. the problem is that they are not on track. If Intel gets to be second place for foundry, they will be amazingly successful. The are currently not top 10 (intel publishes external foundry numbers)

Craig Barrett: Intel is back—stop talking about breaking it up

Everything I stated is 100% true and I can discuss on the phone how we know this, how it can be verified, and answer all your questions. I also have presentations predicting what happened now 3-4 years ago www.mkwventures.com. I will have posting soon telling you what will happen in 2027. I...

    Panther lake delay?

They need internal and 10B/year in external revenue to be successful. If you dont have both, you need to outsource. The realistic external foundry predictions are much smaller.

Craig Barrett: Intel is back—stop talking about breaking it up

I dont know.... but if I could choose anyone to look into it and lead them to be more cost effective, that person would probably be Naga. Also stealing hiring someone from TSMC would be great. Wei Jen Lo and Kevin Zhang are both former Intel VPs but neither is working in R&D. Group leaders and...

Craig Barrett: Intel is back—stop talking about breaking it up

they need more customers and those companies need advanced processes. Intel spends more than any other company and the employees still complain that they do not spend enough... so yes, thats a problem that the new owners will need to deal with.

    Panther lake delay?

That is not clear. 18A will have cost issues until it is fully ramped into a full capacity fab.

Craig Barrett: Intel is back—stop talking about breaking it up

They are talking with everyone. Seems like TSMC said no. they would be a huge help to GF, UMC, Tower and it could be a JV partnership (AMFAB). Those companies do foundry and IFS can bring advanced tech

Craig Barrett: Intel is back—stop talking about breaking it up

14 process and product was very good technically. I made fun of the ++++ but they were still way ahead of TSMC and did amazing stuff. The process was way too expensive but it didnt matter since it was so far ahead..... then came 10nm and for the first time in 30 years, intel didnt deliver...

    Panther lake delay?

Historically Intel makes decisions in February/March, then communicates them to OEMs in June in roadmap update, then sometimes publicly (they never announces the meteor lake delay). I would expect them to follow this. Most people were expecting paper launch at best in 2025. Our model is that...

Craig Barrett: Intel is back—stop talking about breaking it up

@siliconbruh999 What do you think the operating margins will be for 18A for IFS in 2025 and 2026.

TSMC CEO to meet with Trump to tout investment plans

I think TSMC will focus on hiring the best Engineers from successful companies.

Craig Barrett: Intel is back—stop talking about breaking it up

Intel doesnt solve or want to solve Geo stability. They just want to avoid financial disaster at this point. You are correct that Pats strategy was too optimistic. But thats why Intel planned to outsource in 2020. You cannot afford the fabs and TD work with Intels internal volume. the scale is...

Intel delays $28 billion Ohio chip factory

they do not have details. Tariffs based on where it is shipped from is easy to implement. PCs, Phones, servers are made in other countries. TSMC wafers are not shipped to US. Tariff problem solved.:) Tariffs are always bad.

Craig Barrett: Intel is back—stop talking about breaking it up

Simplified: Intel had 4 years. their external foundry revenue dropped. Intel has no external foundry committed production in 2025 or 2026. Based on this, the finances are horrible if Intel ramps and horrible if Intel does not ramp. There is no happy ending to "I invested billions in creating an...

Intel delays $28 billion Ohio chip factory

correct. Every tariff comment is useless unless we define Country of origin in the tariff. It took cars year and years to work out details. % of value, % of parts, locations of initial transformation, Location of final transformation. once we know the details, people will know how to adjust to...
