Uber can Save US Trillions utilizing Tech

Uber has the means of saving the US trillions by dramatically increasing the efficiency of use of our existing roadways, displacing current inefficient costly public transportation and save additional trillions by cutting the massive time lost on commutes. It will also save money on vehicles by enabling far higher utilization so the cars can be scrapped before they become obsolete or significantly less economic. This trend will also save on energy and pollution by putting much more modern cars on the road since through vastly increased use they will have about a five year lifespan. This will also apply to trucking. All this will be enabled by the dramatic increased use of semis/mems/software and sophisticated software combined with AI. This is but one area where the semis/mems/sensor area is set to dramatically increase in size. This is all part of the "Great Acceleration" where utilization rates of everything go up dramatically and lifespans of devices go down enabling us to always have near state of the art technology all around us.

Uber could lower the need for new infrastructure by not only greatly increasing the speed of freeways, but upping the average amount of people in a vehicle at any one time. It could also take an inefficient, archaic bus and transit system and turn in into a luxury, low cost, more point to point, distributed transit system. In the not to distant future non smart cars will be relegated to a smaller and smaller portion of the road network. This will not only save time, but energy, while dramatically lowering pollution. This will give us additional savings throughout our economy and increase the quality of life.

All of these factors will also be applied to the trucking industry and even aircraft as Vertical Take Off and Landing aircraft come into the mix. Transportation will become more point to point and dramatically more efficient. Just like Uber is applying basic principles made possible by the latest tech, we will see other companies applying these same strategies and technologies in their respective areas of business. I hope we can see a tidal wave of improvement in the lives of everyone and the environment we all share.

This will become an dramatic increase in penetration of the tech industry into the transport sector with unprecedented growth in not only business, but new opportunities for employment. We are entering a brave new world and we can either master it or become a slave to it.

We will see a dramatic conflict between the forces that want to maintain the traditional, failing, expensive, polluting current system and those that want to lead us into the future. Sadly, the incumbents and special interests are aligned with the old. Our whole structure of employment, education and training are going to have to change as much or more than our transportations system. The past more than ever has become about maintaining a system that is increasingly obsolete and failing over a future that has more promise than ever for individuals and society to reach their full potential of a far brighter future. It's all about matching the useful life and technical life spans to their maximum efficiency whether it be a product or skill set, the "Great Acceleration" is shortening both. Technology and science will become as much about figuring our how to get it implemented and applied as the science/technology itself. This will become a whole new field in and of itself.
