TSMC's most advanced 1nm process new plant is reportedly to be located in Shalun, Tainan. It plans to build a super-large wafer factory (Giga-Fab) that can accommodate six 12-inch factories, thereby amplifying the synergy of the existing Southern Science Park advanced process production cluster. It will also connect to Chiayi in the north and Kaohsiung and Pingtung in the south, which are actively promoted by the National Science and Technology Council, and become a core indicator investment of the "Greater Southern New Silicon Valley Promotion Plan."
Regarding the rumor that the new 1nm plant will be located in Shalun, Tainan, TSMC said that there are many considerations in choosing the location of the plant. The company uses Taiwan as its main base and does not rule out any possibility.
TSMC has built new factories in Baoshan, Hsinchu and Nanzi, Kaohsiung as 2nm production bases. Sources revealed that TSMC internally named the new 1nm factory in Shalun, Tainan "Fab 25". The industry interprets that TSMC's investment in the most advanced process in Taiwan demonstrates the company's determination to stay in Taiwan after completing its overseas layout in the United States, Japan, Germany and other countries.
TSMC's investment in Taiwan continues, and the focus of building new factories in the future will shift southward. TSMC Chairman Wei Zhejia confirmed this in an interview after hosting an earnings conference a few days ago. In addition, TSMC's board of directors will "travel" to Arizona, USA in the middle of this month. It is understood that the new Pingtung investment project is also expected to be approved at that time.
After TSMC's 1nm plant was evacuated from Longtan, Taoyuan, other counties and cities tried their best to win it. Sources revealed that TSMC has felt the coordination blueprint and overall planning proposed by the green camp counties and cities such as Chiayi, Tainan, Kaohsiung and Pingtung, especially Kaohsiung's efforts to build a science park or industrial park extending southward from the Southern Science Park and Tainan Park to Kaohsiung, Baipu, Qiaotou, Nanzi and other science parks, connecting the Renwu Industrial Park, Hefa Industrial Park and then to the southernmost New Materials Recycling Industrial Park in Kaohsiung, and then forming a complete industrial cluster with the Asia Bay Smart Technology Innovation Park and the Jingchuang Project IC Social Planning Center, which is the "Semiconductor S Corridor" that Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai has been advocating.
TSMC's 1nm facility in Shalun, Tainan, is equivalent to expanding the importance of the S Corridor and is expected to attract more investment in the materials and peripheral equipment supply chain.
It is understood that TSMC has proposed to the Southern Science Park Administration that it will establish 1.4nm and 1nm land in Shalun, Tainan. This also means that the first three factories, P1 to P3, will be used for 1.4nm production, and the last three will be 1nm. If the Zhongke plant can successfully hand over the land and be included in the 1.4-nanometer production planning blueprint, TSMC's plant in Shalun, Tainan may also be changed to 1 nanometer for the first three plants and 0.7 nanometer for the last three plants.
The Economic Development Bureau of the Taipei City Government responded yesterday that in response to manufacturers' needs to build factories, the Southern Science Park Administration plans to establish a new AI Ecological Science Park in the Shalun Park. The relevant land is still under planning, and detailed information is based on the explanation of the Southern Science Park Administration.
The Southern Science Park Administration pointed out that the Shalun Ecological Science Park is currently conducting a feasibility assessment and soliciting public opinions in accordance with the "Operation Guidelines for New and Expanded Science Parks". It will continue to promote the park after incorporating public opinions and carefully evaluating them.
