TSMC looks to double down on U.S. chip factories as talks in Europe falter

This is what happens when you poke the bear. Samsung, Globalfoundries, and Intel have all publicly challenged TSMC's place in semiconductor history and all have lost billions. Will Intel IDM 2.0 be different this time?

Not according to Albert Einstein:
Insanity Is Doing the Same Thing Over and Over Again and Expecting Different Results

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (2330.TW) is weighing plans to pump tens of billions of dollars more into cutting-edge chip factories in the U.S. state of Arizona than it had previously disclosed, but is cool on prospects for an advanced European plant, people familiar with the matter told Reuters.....

TSMC has zero intention to build Fab in Europe.
But they still have to meet with European government to show their respect.
Konrad Young, one of the top TSMC executive who just retired a few years ago said in an interview on Youtube that TSMC should leave more market and profit to US companies (he meant Intel). So the US government won't going after TSMC. US government is TSMC's biggest potential threat.

US govt can also actually do something to protect Taiwan. EU can do nothing. So likely not much in it for TSMC on any count.

I agree, TSMC building fabs in the US extends the silicon shield of Taiwan against China. Even though wafers are made in the US masks, packaging etc... are still in Taiwan. The US fabs will stop dead if Taiwan is disrupted.
