Qualcomm escalates legal battle with Apple

Qualcomm is not suing Apple, claiming infringement on 6 patents. Patents are not part of essential patents, but cover more advanced features.

Personally I think Apple crossed the line in trying to bully QCOM into opening up it's IP licensing deal with them, regardless how you feel about the company, those are contracts that were signed and should be honoured. This is expected backlash.

I've also argued that QCOM should buy what's left of Imagination Tech to give it further leverage.

So QCOMM wants to ban sales of Apple products that contain QCOM chips? Intel modems are looking better with each press release... Intel must be enjoying this!

They are looking for a ban on iPhone sales containing the Intel modem, but not the Qualcomm modem.

Ah, interesting:

In its complaint to the ITC, Qualcomm asked the body to ban "iPhones that use cellular baseband processors other than those supplied by Qualcomm’s affiliates." Qualcomm did not name Intel, but Intel began supplying chips for some iPhones starting with the iPhone 7.

Qualcomm has not alleged that Intel chips violate its patents but claims that the way Apple implements them in the iPhone does. Intel declined comment.
