Prediction: Nvidia Will Replace Intel in the Dow Jones Index

... or possibly Broadcom?

Any other suggestions?

It's no secret that Intel (INTC -2.63%) has been struggling. The stock is down more than 60% year to date and has been the worst performer in the Dow Jones Industrial Average this year.

The company was once the largest chipmaker in the world, dominating the personal computer (PC) space. That helped it become one of the first two technology companies to join the famed Dow Jones index, along with Microsoft back in the late 1990s. However, the paths of the Wintel duo have greatly diverged over the past decade.

Eventually Intel will be replaced by another company, may or may not be a semiconductor company. One of the major reasons to replace Intel is that it doesn't represent US industry trends or current state of US Industry anymore. For example in the past several years, many US semiconductor companies were doing very well but not Intel. Looking at Intel's revenue and profit can mislead people to think US semiconductor industry or manufacturing in general are in very bad situations. This is a contradiction to Dow 30's original intention.

Microsoft would also have been in the dumpster were it not for them kicking Balmer out and moving into services in a big way.
