Another example of a poorly managed company. The thing with ramping yield is that sometimes the tweaks help but sometimes they hurt. I'm guessing that Intel was overly optimistic on 10nm yield ramp this year and held off on 14nm expansion as long as possible.
Poor management is an understatement here. Unless they were really really close to acceptable yields not looking for outside sourcing for the Apple modems or timely expanding 14nm capacity is akin to driving without steering.
Even if they really didnt see their 10nm trainwreck coming, not having a plan B and acting on your 10nm debacle three months after you announce it to the world is simply mindboggling.
