Leak hints near launch of Huawei Kirin PC chip with new Qingyun notebooks

Kirin PC chip rumored to be in the pipeline for a long time and looks like Huawei is ready to launch it with some new Qingyun notebooks. A leak says that the computer-dedicated processor is on the way and may soon show up on the stage.

Weibo tipster @FixedFocus cites that if all goes well then Huawei could launch the self-developed Kirin PC chip in May or June this year with Qingyun Notebook series.

Inputs reveal that the company may initially release the Kirin PC chip notebooks for enterprise customers. Although general users could look forward to the new computer-dedicated processor launch for MateBook in the second half of this year.

Some early revelations mentioned that Huawei has a bunch of products to release this month including wearables, smartphones, and notebooks. But the list of expected devices doesn’t count any Qingyun model for the time being.

Thus we can expect the Kirin PC chip to debut on the consumer platform next month. It is uncertain how far the leak is accurate as Huawei has not confirmed the news yet.

Kirin PC Chip:

A recent rumor pointed out that the Kirin PC could use the Taishan V130 core architecture and may be equivalent to the Apple M3 in terms of performance. The company might also introduce chip variants like Pro and Max versions of Apple M3.

Previous leaks suggested the following CPU architecture for the Kirin PC:

  • 4 x Taishan large cores
  • 4 x Taishan mid-cores
  • 2 x large cores of NPU (Ascend Lite)
  • 2 x micro cores of NPU (Ascend Mini)
The respective processor could pair up with the Maleoon 910 GPU, 32GB RAM, and 2TB SSD, 2 or 3 x USB 4.0 storage. Note that the GPU is said to deliver Apple M2-like performance with efficient visual renderings. It would be worth seeing what enhancements the Kirin PC chip will bring on board in the upcoming weeks.

Wow, same performance as Apple? That means they beat Intel and AMD in ultralight laptops. And they did it on older process node. Unbelievable achievement.

Where did you find these facts ? Doesn't seem to be anything concrete or verified in the reports listed here so far.

The decoupling is well underway. I think most major corporations do not believe the trend and moment are reversible.

Import Substitution Industrialization is what made America great. Then for a while after WWII we convinced everyone it was a bad idea because it went against the tide of globalization. Now in the span of 4 years our foreign policy nimrods have used wanton sanctions to lay the grounds for ISI in both Russia and China. Anthony Blinken playing "Rockin' in the free world" in Kiev is a great exemplar for how stupid these people are, they don't bother reading the lyrics they just see the title and start head banging.

A very astute post. I didn't realize Blinken had done this. Not being a fan of Young or Blinken, I am amused, but the humor is especially dark.

It is nice to see that Weibo has reliable Sources like XTwitter :ROFLMAO:

Maybe something is lost in translation?

China is no different the other parts of the world in this regard, if your back is up against the wall INNOVATE! The US is pushing China to be semiconductor independent and they are doing it, absolutely.

Here is another article:

Isn't only 3 companies is allowed to print (make money) on x86 (Intel/AMD/Via)? Microsoft Windows doesn't run well on ARM, or at least not many people care to buy/develope software for it.

Is Huawei's new chip running on Linux only? This seems niche.

There is also an alleged benchmark for Kirin 9100 (allegedly SMIC 5nm). https://technews.tw/2024/05/07/huawei-will-launch-5nm-process-kirin-9100/

Translation correction: "1.1 million points is equivalent to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 scores for non-Apple mobile phones in 2022, while the Huawei Pura 70 series’ Kirin 9010 AnTuTu scores reached 960,000 and 980,000 points, showing that the performance of Kirin 9100 is improved by 12% to 14%."
