After studying graphene for about ten years it's finally starting to come of age with numerous new ways of producing and working with it. Because of its single layer molecular structure and strength of its bonds it holds promise in numerous areas from structural materials on a larger scale to extremely small scales on layers one atom thick. Building the world's smallest accelerometer is just one of its many potential uses. It will be interesting to see how it is applied to semis, batteries and super capacitors on a small scale and structures of extreme strength on a larger scale. As the costs come down dramatically with newer production techniques, more ways of working with this wonderous material has the potential to radically change the world from the smallest objects to the largest. One dramatic use being worked on is coatings impervious to most environments of almost unimaginably thin dimensions. Batteries and super capacitors are two other fields where graphene look to radically change the land scape. I see graphene becoming one of the base building blocks of an entirely new industries as silicon also changed our world. It looks like the time has come for graphene to play a much larger role in the semi/nanotech industry. Links below for reference.
