Everything Apple just announced: Vision Pro headset, iOS 17, the 15-inch MacBook Air and more

"Apple just announced a new Mac Pro, its highest-end desktop computer, with the M2 Ultra chip. It’s the last Apple computer to ditch Intel for Apple silicon. It starts at $6,999."

The Apple's "Intel Inside" relationship has finally ended.

Have Apple said they would discontinue Intel-based Mac Pros? The new model is not quite in the same class in terms of the expansion (GPUs etc.) and RAM limits (192GB vs 1.5TB). It's not clear what their plan was but it looks like so far they failed to scale up their Mx design to the requirements of the workstation/server market. The new Mac Pro is basically a Mac Studio with PCIe slots (which can't take GPUs, probably just for SSDs then).

The Mac Pro was the last Apple computer that still used Intel CPU. After today's announcement there isn't any Intel based Mac available on the Apple official online store anymore.

Is there any unannounced Mac model that will use Intel processors? I don't have any insider information but I think it's unlikely. As matter of fact, Intel doesn't show it cares about the relationship between Intel and Apple.

As June 5, 2023, this video listed below is still available on Intel's official YouTube channel.

IMO, making fun of your own customers publicly is always a bad idea.

Frenemies and coopetition right? Never happen in the semiconductor industry.

I did notice that the new M2 has two die smashed together, compliments of TSMC of course. I can't wait to see the teardown.
