EAGLE Act calls for 'Taiwan' to be included in name of de facto embassy

Silicon shield is the hype term being pushed by the media recently. IMHO this is a total BS.

US closing ties to Taiwan is much more related to South China Sea than anything else. In long term this narrative can be harmful to TSMC. If CCP feels threatened by a "Silicon Shield" it would do business as usual to undermine it. Banning TSMC silicon in mainland seems crazy today, but if things go south the CCP would not hesitate.

I disagree. Semiconductors are like oil, countries will go to war over it. The media may have named it but the shield is real and the Taiwan Straight will be the battlefield. It will be the CCP against the world and the world will win, absolutely.
 
Living in Taiwan, I wish the world will win but Taiwan should not be the victim for whoever wins.
 
China will never be a superpower as long as there's a first island chain. They're building a massive navy but can't use it.

It's not about semiconductor but freedom of transit in the Pacific.

This is not wrong per se, but transit in the Pacific in effect means worldwide - hence global trade. And that can only be enforced with military strength and power, which in large measure is facilitated by technology. So while this maybe is not directly about semiconductors, it is in fact a driving force (if not the #1 reason) for this whole discussion about Taiwan. CCP certainly knows this, as does the Pentagon and NATO. Even Russia. The entire supply chain risk and (auto) chip shortage are secondary or tertiary discussion lines for the primary advanced tech needs.
