Computing at the Edge, Lower Data Center loads

Wiil computing at the edge be able to reduce communications and power loads on the AI/ML ecosystems that now mainly exist in the data center? Will this create a whole new class of semiconductors and other changes in the computational ecosystems structure? Will this trend of needing increase power and communications be at least partially addressed by creating whole new ecosystems? Any thoughts on where the AI ecosystems go would be appreciated.
