China/Taiwan, War a lose/lose

Closer collaboration and cooperation politically and economically would be far, far less costly than war to the benefit of both sides. A military conflict would be a loser for not only China and Taiwan but the world. Collaboration and cooperation present a large upside for both sides. China would get access to top technology without spending anything by just becoming a customer and Taiwan would gain additional revenue. War is definitely the last refuge of the incompetent and ignorant, I hope China proves intelligent and goes for the upside, all they have to do is look at Russia/Ukraine conflict for how large the downside could be for not only themselves, but the world.

Agreed, the Ukraine conflict and semiconductor shortage is teaching the world a lesson. Hopefully East Asia will take this to heart.

Unfortunately, China chose a controlled flight into terrain, and that's why I am out.

Xi has entered the Putin mode, and will only up his bets every time he falters.

CPC had completely lost any ability to control Xi, and his gang. Recent fiasco with Shanghai lockdown is a proof.

I agree in the short term but in the long term the organizations of all types and people who master the game will win the through far more efficient use of resources of all types. The semi and tech sector is giving us more tools and automation to solve production challenges from farming to the production of the most advanced equipment and products. Companies such as Autodesk and EDA companies of all types are changing the rules by vastly leveraging human resources and this is still in the early stages. Vast human labor will lose value as the automation of everything from labor, the professions, transportation and everything else takes hold and becomes part of the "Great Acceleration" that the semi sector is the foundation of.

Bloomberg reports (link below...apologies paywalled) A senior Chinese economist at a CCP-run research group has called on the government to seize TSMC if the US hits China with sanctions like those leveled against Russia.

“If the US and the West impose destructive sanctions on China like sanctions against Russia, we must recover Taiwan,” said Chen Wenling, chief economist at the China Center for International Economic Exchanges. The research group is overseen by the National Development and Reform Commission, China’s top economic planning agency.

“Especially in the reconstruction of the industrial chain and supply chain, we must seize TSMC,” Chen said in a speech last month hosted by the Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies at Renmin University, which was posted online Tuesday by the nationalistic news website Guancha.

“They are speeding up the transfer to the US to build six factories there,” she added. “We must not let all the goals of the transfer be achieved.”

These are all very purposeful leaks. You can see that in action in Ukraine. All kinds of "Western sympathetic insiders" willingly leaking stuff to Western press (stuff you get a firing squad for in China) are 100% not real leakers.
