Carl Icahn Exits Apple, China Worries?

Arthur Hanson

Well-known member
Carl Icahn announced exiting Apple today and said Tim Cook was one of the best executives he has dealt with and he has dealt with many. His main stated reason for exiting Apple is concerns about China. After listening to the XMC presentation at the CASPA meeting, China also gives me some serious concerns. Does anyone have opinions or observations on where China is going and their policies to foreign countries and companies? Is China going to be a serious adversary or a true partner?

China is an adversary (e.g. NDRC shakedown of Qualcomm), a partner of necessity, and a direct competitor (Tsinghua Unigroup/Tsinghua University/Spreadtrun/Huawei/ZTE/etc.). They are legislator, chief executive, prosecutor, regulator, trade negotiator, and CEO, all rolled into one. Where else, of consequence, is so much political and economic power found?

We have a fierce competitor in China, who will take no prisoners and give no quarter, so our choice in this election will be critical to our future. I hope we don't pick a leader who is like bringing a knife to a gun fight.
