The upcoming paradigm shift in economics dominated by IoT (i.e. close relationship between machines and humans) will give rise to what Gartner calls programmable economy which is actually driven by large number of algorithms.

In its report on predictions beyond 2016, Gartner says by 2020, autonomous software agents (i.e. intelligent software driven by algorithms without any human intervention) will control at least 5% of total economic transactions. And smart agents called Virtual Personal Assistants (VPAs) will facilitate 40% of mobile interactions including user content, behavior, predicting user needs, building trust and so on.

We are already seeing these happening - Amazon has recommendation s/w that keeps customer engaged and buying, Netflix's dynamic algorithm keeps people engaged in binge watching. Also we see such s/w using algorithm based business decisions in stock markets.

In the future, where shall we see people (made by GOD :)) interacting? Virtually on social networks, in malls, Disney world.....?
