The big get bigger as they say. Siemens EDA (formerly Mentor Graphics) and Cadence are also putting up big numbers! After a 36+ year career in EDA and IP this pleases me to no end. Hopefully we can all celebrate in person at #58DAC in December!
  • Synopsys (NASDAQ:SNPS) posts fiscal Q1 beats with revenue up 16% on the year to $970.32M and $1.52 EPS, six cents ahead of estimates.

  • "The first quarter was a very good start to fiscal year 2021, with strength across all geographies and product groups. We delivered financial results at or above guidance targets, initiated a $250 million stock repurchase, and are reaffirming our outlook for the year," says CEO Aart de Geus.

  • For Q2, the company expects revenue of $970M to $1B vs. the $979.9M consensus with EPS of $1.50-1.55 (consensus: $1.51).

  • For the year, SNPS reiterates sales of $4-4.05B vs. the $4.03B estimate. EPS is expected between $6.23-6.30 (consensus: $6.29).

Thanks, Daniel! Why do you think this is happening now, and more importantly, how long do you think the good times for EDA will last?

The systems companies now dominate EDA revenue and they have wider need and bigger budget for tools than the traditional fabless chip companies. System companies are looking for single vendor solutions that go from top to bottom. Unfortunately that leaves out the small to medium EDA players so it will again be "three big dogs hovering over one bowl of dog food". I don't see and EDA slump coming anytime soon. Remember, the global semiconductor market is estimated at $450B but the products using these semiconductors is closer to a $2T valuation.
