No Chip Shortage for Apple!

iPhone sales soared 53% in the quarter to nearly $40 billion! Impressive numbers considering the semiconductor chip shortage "rages on". Good thing Apple makes their own M1 chip now so they can get as as many as they need.

The global supply shortage in semiconductor chips looks likely to rage on for “a couple of years” says Intel chief Gelsinger 7/26/2021

The current over/under bet for a semiconductor glut is 2025. Over or under? I'm thinking under.

Apple doesn't make any chips. They certainly have the resource to pay extra for capacity priority and the clout to minimize that.

XIamoni has overtaken apple as the second largest cell phone vender.

Apple CFO Luca Maestri to break the bad news.

"… we expect supply constraints during the September quarter to be greater than what we experienced during the June quarter. The constraints will primarily impact iPhone and iPad."

A leak letter from Apple tell distributors that Apple will increase it's price for 6% due to cost increase.

It doesn't matter. They are gaining market share + their flagship sales are also growing.
In fact it does matter - Apple with ~15% share has well over 50% of the revenues. Which funds a LOT of R&D and product development for next generation designs etc. If Apple wanted to have 35% or even 50% of the market, they could do so rather easily - but it would hurt their margins and probably not help their overall profit picture so much. Why bother?!

Just to be clear, Apple and other TSMC customers sign up for X amount of wafers for a given node and they get those wafers without question. If Apple needs more wafers then there may be a shortage or if Apple cancels wafer orders then changes their minds a year later there may be shortages. Other than that this shortage narrative is way overblown.
