Room Temperature Super conductor LK 99

If this research proves accurate the whole world of electrical conduction could change everything from power transport to computer chips. The only question is if the research stands up and has actually created a super conductor. If anyone has knowledge in this area, it would be appreciated for it literally be a game changer for numerous uses.
 
The company behind it is shutting down due to fraud allegations.
AFAIK, LK-99 comes from a very different branch of research and involves different materials than the disputed University of Rochester work.


LK-99 results aren’t tied to one company or set of researchers, and appear to be spreading through social media faster than technical publications.

I was referring to the South Korean announcement by Quantum Energy Research Centre.

Thanks for the link, Fred ! Seemed really sketchy that the news was traveling by social media rather than through reviewed technical papers.

Not clear whether your earlier statement (below) was entirely correct (website vs company) , but they might as well shut down.

When I started reading about this room temperature miracle superconductor the first thing that came to mind was cold fusion. :)
 
Some mixed results in replication experiments. A few groups claim to have replicated, a few groups have said they failed to replicate.

I think there are a lot of open questions about how commercial this will be. It looks simple to manufacture so that's a plus. But it's made of lead, so that's a minus. Does it retain it's super conducting properties for a long period of time or does it degrade? If so how quickly? In any case, if this is true, it probably opens up new investigative paths to developing superconductive materials.
 
The papers says that the zero-resistance property(the most useful property of superconductor) is only good up to 20mA,that means it doesn't have much practical use in real world applications
 

For the first time in the world, we succeeded in synthesizing the room-temperature superconductor (Tc≥400 K, 127∘C) working at ambient pressure with a modified lead-apatite (LK-99) structure. The superconductivity of LK-99 is proved with the Critical temperature (Tc), Zero-resistivity, Critical current (Ic), Critical magnetic field (Hc), and the Meissner effect. The superconductivity of LK-99 originates from minute structural distortion by a slight volume shrinkage (0.48 %), not by external factors such as temperature and pressure. The shrinkage is caused by Cu2+ substitution of Pb2+(2) ions in the insulating network of Pb(2)-phosphate and it generates the stress. It concurrently transfers to Pb(1) of the cylindrical column resulting in distortion of the cylindrical column interface, which creates superconducting quantum wells (SQWs) in the interface. The heat capacity results indicated that the new model is suitable for explaining the superconductivity of LK-99. The unique structure of LK-99 that allows the minute distorted structure to be maintained in the interfaces is the most important factor that LK-99 maintains and exhibits superconductivity at room temperatures and ambient pressure.

This is already a red flag. The loss of zero-resistance I-V occurs at lower currents for higher temperatures.
