GlobalFoundries cutting workforce bad news for AMD?

I'm still digging into this so if anyone has info let me know:

We go through these ebbs and flows," Spokesman Jim Keller said Wednesday. "Right now we're at a point where some customers delayed their orders. We're in a period where we don't have as much business."

Keller did not rule out layoffs, however. "Obviously, that is a last resort," he said.

The voluntary retirement program is focusing on support roles in sales, administration, information technology and finance.

In the New York plants, operators on the fab floor are also being offered early retirement, but Keller said operators are not being targeted in Essex Junction.

The AMD 14nm Ryzen chips are being made in Malta so they may be the customer that is delaying orders.

It seems the layoffs are in the old IBM fabs, not Malta. So, the customer delaying orders is unlikely to be AMD

From the same link Daniel provided:
He said all three fabs — the other two are in New York in East Fishkill and Malta — have targeted reductions to make. GlobalFoundries believes it can reach those targets through early retirements and other cuts in expenses, according to Keller.

That means Malta is in the employee "reduction" plan.

Depends on which article you read. One specifically mentions Essex Junction, without mentioning Malta and another seems to indicate Essex Junction in particular is the focus.

I do not think so, Daniel.
Ryzen 7 is doing quite good (the 1700 is in the top 5 best seller CPUs at Amazon and it is a quite expensive one at 320$):

Tomorrow they will officially start to sell also the R5s. That is where the biggest portion of the consumer market is going to be.

I think Globalfoundries and Samsung are both facing the challenge in maintaining overall profitable production volume. Probably it's more significant to GLobalfoundries considering they are smaller but want to stay in the leading edge node progress. It's a very expensive game and only four companies, Intel, TSMC, Samsung, and Globalfoundries, are still in it.
