According to the street, it looks like Texas Instruments could be competing with Qualcomm to buy NXP. The FDSOI technology seems to be the big prize in the deal. It looks like it would be a very good fit for Texas Instruments financially and technically. It will be interesting to see how the competition plays out and if there are any other suitors in the wings. It seems to me, others could be interested in picking up NXP's technology as an add on to spread their bets on differing semi technologies. Any comments or thoughts on this would be appreciated. I have been a fan of the future of FDSOI tech and would appreciate any comments on this especially.
Parts of NXP's business might be a better match for QCOM, some parts a better match for TI, and some parts might fit in well with Broadcom. Maybe NXP's best strategy would be to sell itself piecewise.

When Qualcomm and TI are doing their M&A planning for NXP, they probably already have this "buy in bulk and sell individually" strategy in mind. The Google's Motorola acquisition and later the spin-off is an example.
