Apple's Processor Talk of the Street

The processor of the new iPhone was the talk of the Street on the financial channel. It's ability to deliver high performance while maximizing battery life is considered the real key to the success of the iPhone. Over the next few weeks as people start to use their new iPhones this should give Apple further market dominance over the competition. TSM is now the undisputed leader in phone processors having the high end with Apple and the lower end with Mediatek, which isn't that low anymore. TSM for now holds the top spot in phone processors and shows no sign of giving up the lead.

I'm not really getting your point. It is Apple that is doing the SoC design, not TSMC. Same for Mediatek. The last year's A9 was also a beast, regardless of the foundries (TSMC or SEC).

TSMC created a special version of 16FFC for Apple that will only be used by Apple. TSMC will also create special versions of 10nm and 7nm for Apple so the A10 is just a peak at things to come. If you want to know when TSMC will go into HVM manufacturing at 10nm and 7nm just check the Apple iPhone launch dates and count back 6 months.

Probably would have been better to name the topic, TSMC advanced technology leadership. That's the reason of my previous reply. Where's Apple A10 processor?

On the market share comment, just know that Samsung ships about 2X smart phones compared to Apple, although Apple has higher margins:

The latest data from market research firm IDC reveals that Samsung shipped nearly twice as many smartphones as Apple in the fiscal third quarter. Android-based Galaxy smartphone shipments totaled an estimated 77 million, compared to 40.4 million iPhones, during the three-month period that ended in late June. For Apple, the fiscal third quarter is seasonally its lowest of the year.

It's curious you neglected to mention Qualcomm, the fabless maker of more phone processors than any other company, and the overwhelming supplier to flagships ex-Apple. While the A-10 is certainly impressive now, even when compared to the Snapdragon 821, 2017 Android flagships will feature the Snapdragon 830, which will likely set the bar until the A-11 a year from now.
