Worldwide MCU market estimated to grow 12-15% in 2015

A brand new report from EMITT Solutions (Bangalore, India) shows powerful momentum building in the worldwide microcontroller market, thanks to the Internet of Things, wearables, automotive, and security card application segments.

Their revised estimate of the total MCU market for 2014 was $19B, checking in at 12% annual growth. In their analysis, many new designs in IoT and wearable products moved into production in late 2014. This provides the basis for their optimistic estimate of 2015 revenue growth in the range of 12-15%. Indications are that China and India experienced strong growth, but the US is seeing a resurgence in MCU usage. Much of the growth is powered by 32-bit ARM designs, but on chip RF integration is also now the trend in new parts.

In a cautionary note, based on consumer adoption of devices, they see the possibility for some flattening in MCU markets in 2016. They also see crossover in low-end SoCs, especially programmable devices like Xilinx Zynq and Cypress pSOC, creating a new space and stealing some traditional share from MCUs.

The complete report is available for purchase for $3800. For an abstract and contact information:
