Will the lead cable problem drive fiber and new equipement demand? A wireless future?

As is being well documented and the lawsuits starting in the lead communications cable problem, this should further drive progress using fiber as a replacement. This could drve a demand cycle that will eventually extend worldwide and accelerate a technological that is already occurring. The question I have is there a technology out there that could replace cables with a largely wireless ecosystem. Any thoughts or comments appreciated.
