Will AI/ML solve skilled labor shortages?

It would be far cheaper and faster to leverage and develop AI/ML ecosystems than try to train people that will soon be in oversupply as AI/ML systems are able to not only replace people, but do so at lower cost with better performance. Just like robotics is replacing people at an increasing rate in physical fields along with specialized tooling (I have seen how battery powered tools have vastly increased the efficiency of the construction industry along with panelized and modular construction industry). The same is possible in many professions and labor shortages will only speed up and advance this trend. It is far faster and has more leverage to add additional capabilties to an automated ecosystem than hire and train a large number on new people. Any thoughts or comments sought and welcome. This is a major area of investment for me and not just casual interest.

According to the latest South Park episode, AI will simply replace people and lower the quality of life for white collar workers, while furthering the shortage of blue collar workers :)

More seriously. It's a bit too early to tell. We really need robots + AI to address labor shortages in a lot of areas. Or better yet better immigration policies in a lot of countries with the shortages. But it's hard to do these things and there are some tradeoffs.
