Trump team considers nationalizing 5G network - Good or Bad?

Good news bad news I guess. Finally the US Government understands how important semiconductors are to national security. But do we want the US Government to really understand how important semiconductors are to National security?

Trump national security officials are considering an unprecedented federal takeover of a portion of the nation’s mobile network to guard against China, according to sensitive documents obtained by Axios. Why it matters: We’ve got our hands on a PowerPoint deck and a memo — both produced by a senior National Security Council official — which were presented recently to senior officials at other agencies in the Trump administration.

Wow - apparently the federal government shouldn't be running national healthcare but it should be running the internet. This seems wildly inconsistent. If the government isn't competent in one domain, why is it competent in the other? Not to say we shouldn't do more to protect against cyber attacks but I'm pretty sure the federal government is the least effective way to address that problem.

If they do pull this off, it will kill 5G and guess what, technologists will build a replacement. Dumb government.

Sell off national park and BLM land to oil and gas interests, subsidize with tax credits the privatization of highways, bridges, and stadiums, but nationalize 5G networks like Nicaragua?

Where's the ideological consistency, and coherence?

Almost everything the government has touched in modern times has been behind schedule, over priced, doesn't perform well and has serious problems. Just look at our medical, military, justice system and educational system, infrastructure, all have very serious, very expensive problems and a time line far, far behind schedule. Regulate 5G by the private sector in a very clear, public and transparent manner with clear lines of accountability with no campaign contributions allowed.
