View attachment 13440The RF-on-MCU trend continues to pick up momentum. TI introduced additions to the SimpleLink MCU family, supporting a wide range of popular connectivity for IoT devices. With an ARM Cortex-M3 processor core and a Cortex-M0 running the RF, family members include:

  • the CC2640 for Bluetooth Smart,
  • the CC2630 for 6LoWPAN and ZigBee,
  • the CC2650 for 2.4 GHz WSNs including Bluetooth Smart, 6LoWPAN, ZigBee, and RF4CE.

Future variants are the CC1310 for sub-GHz, and the CC2620 for RF4CE.

STMicro's lead we reported on a few days ago EEMBC ULPbench was short-lived. The CC2650 achieved a new high score of 143.6.

TI is sampling in a 7x7mm QFN, planning smaller packages soon. Pricing for the CC2640 is $3.00 in 1K, and for the CC2630 $5.10 in 1K.

TI makes battery-less IoT connectivity possible with the industry's first multi-standard wireless microcontroller platform
