The White House reportedly discussing taking a stake in Intel, sending shares climbing

It seems there is no easy way forward under the calling of Trump admin. Reports indicate that CC Wei has been in the spotlight over the past few days, with an urgent board agenda emerging to address U.S. tariff concerns and new investment issues.

Economic Daily Taipei report, August 11, 2025: tSMC shall hold a board meeting this week at its 2nm production site in Southern Science Park of Taiwan . The industry is paying attention to the follow-up of a) the 2nm leak case, b) US tariff and c) investment in US plant (seems to be a new one "ASMC"), and the rumor said that Intel's (US admin's) invitation to acquire a stake has resurfaced to see if it will come true.

At least TSMC has the full backing of their government:

Let INTEL, UMC and GlobalFoundries work to absorb IFS and transform IFS into America Taiwan Foundry Services, ATFS !

Is it an IDM?
I understand that IdM is a burden in terms of results, but I don't think IDM is the cause up to that point.
I feel like it's more like an egg or a chicken first

Is it a feeling that IDM was not a burden in the process, and that you were not able to create a business to earn money?

The cause is not IDM, but it seems that it was not possible to generate good earnings, my opinion is

If Intel is seriously working on the Foundry business that Intel was planning to do 10 years ago...
If I had started IFS 10 years ago...
Maybe I made enough money to maintain IDM.
Intel has been trying foundry for some time. In the 2010s intel tried foundry under the ICF moniker and failed. IFS was then started under PG.

Well, of course I know about the ICF, if I had worked hard from the ICF days, I might have had good results...
Far from being able to maintain the IDM model, it is also possible that he was earning enough to expand the scale.

The IDM model has become a hindrance...
This statement is, in a sense, hindsight. I think the problem is Intel's corporate culture, not the IDM business model.
You can maintain IDM depending on how you gesture yourself.
I don't think the business model itself called IDM is wrong.

UMC is not us so i doubt also this is a recipe for disaster

Perhaps the UMC folks can bring some needed humility, patience and cultural change to the INTEL culture of arrogance, financial brute force and laziness. And UMC is used to being number two, and sometimes there is nothing wrong with being number two; perhaps hard to understand for some Americans, who are raised in this culture of everything is a match between two opponents and too often think that number two is a looser......

And on the political perspective, POTUS wanted some fingers in the "pot of mineral gold of Ukraine", now his chance to get some fingers in the "pot of silicon gold of Taiwan" ;)

Well, UMC is a Taiwanese company, not an American company.

SiliconBruh999 I agree with my brother's remarks

The joint venture between Intel and UMC was born simply because Intel wanted to do something with its vacant manufacturing lanes and UMC wanted to expand into the US.

Also, please abandon the stereotypes about Americans.
Thank you very much

If it's an American gathering, it should be done only by American companies.
It's not a bad idea to ask or use your hands from other companies, but basically you do it with your own hands.

Ask the ASML folks, and how their global open and collaborative business perspective/culture outcompeted the somewhat closed "doing everything yourself within Japan" business culture of Nikon and Canon

Well, the Japanese were stupid...
That's why, as I mentioned earlier, I also say that it is necessary to have wisdom.
I've never denied any relationship with others, and I think it's necessary.
Thank you for understanding the story

Basically, it's important to interact with others, and I understand that.
But it's only natural to do it, of course
Apart from this story
I think that if a semiconductor manufacturing-related company in the United States gathers and creates one organization, I should basically perform as an American company.

Well the reason Nikon/Canon couldn't do EUV lithography was more due to US denying them rights cause the current EUV is based on research Intel funded.

I do not think "stupidity" is linked to particular nationalities....diversity and collaboration will open up many new perspectives and options....
"Fool" shows the process leading up to that conclusion
I'm not talking about race
Also, why don't you review what you said earlier? Thank you
A textbook from my country said that America is a race salad bowl,
I think they can do their best because they are being told this way.
You can get a lot of knowledge

And right,
ASML has funds and technology.

Years before EUV-tools were making any money for ASML, they had "kicked ass" to Nikon regarding immersion 193 nm steppers......Perhaps have a look at these two books:

Welcome to Soviet America, where everything is dictated by apparatchiks trying to please their party bosses, and only loosely informed by technological expertise and economic conditions.

That would be called "throwing rocks in a glass house", the same reason nobody from either side will ever truly prosecute the Epstein case.

Those would be too junior to be called apparatchiks, they are still at around CPSU nomenklatura level.

Those Yes-Men are still mostly junior politicians, and civil servants. Very insecure young adults, ready to do everything for advancement, approval and pat on the head.

I was surprised all those microchip policies were written by anonymous young staffers, and not political heavyweight surnames.

I come from a country where indurstry is heavily intervened by government.
Let me tell you , there's no good result comes out of it.
The worst part : It distorts the whole market.
I've found the world to be quite humorous; everyone seems to want the greener grass on the other side.
Latest example: deepseek R2 heavily delayed because of Huawei Ascend.
