The demise of silicon???

How likely will silicon be replaced by an entirely new set of materials for example graphene/2D materials for future generations of CMOS devices? If not, what is preventing any other material from competing with silicon with respect to technical reasons?

Not possible within a decade. Biggest black horse is the imprint litho, but it will not mark the switch from CMOS

What about the position of silicon when 2D atomic channel transistors are introduced?

No matter what materials they will be made of, you will need some substrate to make them on, and there is nothing more mature than silicon. I'm sure there will be multiple materials being front runners for the new transistor, grown on different substrates, but the one winning will be the easiest one to manufacture, thus still on silicon wafers.
