Telecoms Cutting Back, Impact on Semi Market

The economics of the tech/semi industry are going through changes and the sophisticated communications webs that carry ever increasing amounts of traffic as everything becomes connected show that changes are needed. Will the constant lowering of cost of connectivity continue or have we finally hit bottom? Are there any new technologies on the horizon that could lower the cost of the massive connectivity that has spawned a decades long improvement in cost and performance? Any thoughts or comments appreciated.
