Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) recently disclosed its overseas expansion progress and plans in its earnings report conference on January 18 and expressed interest in building a second fab in Japan. Surprisingly, supply chain sources said TSMC's success in Japan has inspired Singapore to pitch even better incentives to attract investments from TSMC.

Singapore's latest incentives will provide tax breaks and subsidies besides the government's all-out support for land, water, electricity, and talent supplies. supply chain sources said Singapore is eager to solidify its position as a semiconductor manufacturing hub in Southeast Asia.

If we look into TSMC new fab projects in Japan and Germany, TSMC likes to bring in large local customers/partners who have large global market operations as the co-investors. By doing so TSMC greatly reduced the risks and uncertainty of the new fab.

TSMC may need to identify who are the co-investors in Singapore before they can decide to build a fab there.

tsmc co-invented with NXP and has SSMC (Systems on Silicon Manufacturing Company) 8" fab there. It will not be brand new to be considered. Will NXP got incentive to build new 12" fab in Singapore?

The important thing here is that TSMC is gaining more experience building abroad. One thing that I have always said about TSMC is that they learn from their mistakes. TSMC does not drink their own bathwater.

SSMC facility expansion open last year assuming thats funded by TSMC and NXP.

Dunno if any new lines were added , but plenty of land round there if they want put another FAB on that site.
