Hi all,
This is a general question, I've recently moved to Australia and I'm trying to figure out what exists here that is related to the semiconductors industry, for now, all I here is that there's barely one company that has a semi industrial grade fabrication facility in Sydney, they're called Silana, I've googled them a little, seems like they are an iteration of a old smaller companies here and they're doing pretty well in RF and a few other areas, acquired a company called IO-Semi in San-Diego California.
It's pretty interesting that a well developed country like Australia is under the radar because there's a good research and development base in Australia but very limited real industry, with the funding the government gives to PV and quantum technologies I think some industry should evolve into a relevant global player (even if small) at some point.
It would be great to here from anyone with more knowledge of the scene here.
Silana is as far as I'm aware the only fab in Australia. They make silicon-on-sapphire wafers in the region of 0.35um. They have a small design centre at the same location as the fab in the Olympic Village in Sydney and they seem like a pretty reasonable bunch of guys if you're thinking of applying there.
As far as I'm aware there are quite some FPGA companies in Australia and a few analog design houses. The University of Sydney offers courses in Electronics, which makes me think there must be a market for EE graduates.
As an aside, I've always found it strange that Australia with unbelievably stable land mass has only one fab whereas the big guys like to build in earthquake zones such as Taiwan and California.
I am an experienced Physical Implementation Specialist and planning to immigrate to Australia.
I truly need your help and suggestions to :-
1- Get a knowledge about the Semiconductor industry job options.
2- What all i need to do if i have to open my own service company in semiconductor domain.
I am working as a Physical Design engineer in India. And have plannings to move to AUS.
Please give some suggestions as I find only embedded systems jobs in AUS, and not specifically VLSI oriented.
Any idea about any product or service based companies in AUS!

Thanks Daniel for the response.
I can find analog designers' job there.
But I work on digital designs.
I shall take the link provided by you as reference to continue my search.
