Samsung Reported to Ramp up 10nm and 7nm Production With a Huge Investment
Samsung ramping up to 7nm next year
Samsung said to expand 10nm line 17 (for H2 this year), and build new facilities for 7nm to ready by early 2019. It is reportedly adopting GAA FET at 7nm, and will use EUV "once it achieves a breakthrough in the technology."
Also, the source reporting the expansion (ETNews 대한민국 IT포털의 중심! 이티뉴스) reports they ordered 8 of the EUV scanners each over $200 million USD, yet they have trouble finding the land, which may delay things.
It really looks like they are approaching 7nm as a long-term thing, not rushing against TSMC.
