Photonics and Semis Cross Paths at Many Levels

I ran across this article and publication that delves into the intersection of photonics and semis. More and more we are going to these two fields merge to a far greater extent than they already have. This will open many new doors in computing, communications and sensors of types we have only dreamed about. This will become a whole separate field due to its increasing size and technology that holds large promise in almost every area of semis. I have no doubt this will extend to SOCs that will offer greatly expanded functionality over what we currently have. The mix of photonics and semiconductors we currently have is just the very tip of the iceberg and offer a whole new field of exploration. This is beyond most of the current use of photonics in the semi sector that I have read.
