Intel is definitely trying to change its game, first with 3dXpoint memory and now with robotic vision which it plans to combine with deep learning. Intel having missed mobile is now trying to capture transportation and IOT with its new efforts. Robotic vision is a good move, especially combined with deep learning. This will open up whole new areas besides transportation and robotics. Vision is one of our primary learning tools and to pair it with deep learning will open whole new worlds. It will also make profound changes in our labor and education markets, in fact these developments will play a part in changing our very social structure if you think about the implications. It could automate many areas that people haven't even considered open to automation, such a security and medical diagnostics. Very soon we will all have to think differently, for we will have to learn to live with utilize machines both socially and economically.
There is no doubt that Intel has been on an acquisition spree, that has resulted in an eye-opening debt load - which begs the question of why with so many engineers employed in-house, they need to constantly go outside to buy technological capabilities? What has been lacking in their internal development program?

I agree 100%. When valuing a company I look at technology and leadership equally. Intel has great technology but poor leadership which is a recipe for mediocrity. AMD also has poor leadership and not enough technology to make up for it. Just my opinion of course.
