Intel approaches TSMC for investments or partnership, WSJ reports

Sure. A trillion dollars and a decade and it can be done. How much have the Chinese spent thus far trying to do this? Bringing all their chip production in house.

2 years to build and 9 months to quail and start ramp should be too hard. Need to find about 15K contractors and 5-6 K engineers and technicians and send 2-3K to Taichung, Tainan and get 20-25K/month. Figure you can do a phase every year, much faster I. Taiwan of course because of their work ethics and commitment and lack of unions.

I think the end result will be a technology transfer as well as investment in a domestic capable company 😉

Intel already has shells in Ohio and Arizona. There is no need for extended wait time.

it is an investment, not a gift.

How do you know? After all the maneuvers by Trump administration, fewer people believe that his pressure on TSMC and Taiwan will stop here. Compared to his first term, there isn’t much trust left.

I would argue that TSM should invest in Intel to mitigate its intrinsic risks.

A better long-term solution is to address the source: ensuring that the Chinese Communist Party cannot cause trouble abroad or brutally oppress people at home. The Chinese people deserve a life free from the CCP.

That's very true. The only viable long term solution is democracy in China
