The US cannot win the battle against Chinese IP theft alone and it's good news that Germany and France have joined the US to stop this threat that is damaging the tech sector. I would also like to see the UK, Japan, Taiwan and others put up a united front against the blatant theft of IP. It even hurts China themselves as IP theft is rampant within China. IP is the new gold and world wide standards are sorely needed. It has been estimated the Chinese have stolen between 200B and 600B in IP annually from the US alone. Just defending against IP theft has many detrimental effects to world progress as a whole. On this issue, Trump in right and has been a leader on this vitally important issue, even though I disagree with many of his policies and actions. Sadly, at this point we have to deal with a problem that is now so large any change will have serious consequences due to the near total failure of previous presidents to take a leadership role and deal with it. This is of utmost importance to the very survival of a vibrant, productive tech sector around the world. Also China should be made to pay for at least some portion of the damages they have caused to companies and investors as we have seen in other cases around the world.
More than almost any other sector, IP is of critical importance to the semi/nanotech sector in the tremendous quality, value, leverage and quantity of IP compared to any other sector.
Knowledge is power and this is probably the most important issue in the world, for it holds the solutions to the challenges before us.

Update, it now looks like Canada and Japan are going to join us in solving this problem. I expect others to join over the time, for this is to large an issue for any major country to ignore.

“This trade conflict was initiated by the U.S. alone and it is entirely the one to blame,” he said. “The U.S. is wielding the big stick of trade sanctions while keeping saying they are willing to talk. I am not sure who the U.S. is putting on such acts for.”
This latest statement out of China, indicates the tech sector from the rest of the world will have to take an active role or face an ever increasing state sponsored policy of IP theft and abuse. It is clear from this statement that the government not only tolerates the theft of IP, but promotes it.
