Chip Stocks, the Canary in the Coal Mine

Chip stocks are getting hammered as the world economy is getting hurt as the side effects of the war in Ukraine spread and are getting deeper. The main damage is coming from energy costs going through the roof worldwide as we all see daily at the gas pump. With the drought damaging hydroelectric in the US and elsewhere, the lack of diversity in our power grid is coming home to roost. It looks like small nukes that have been powering US naval ships and submarines for years may be one of the better solutions. Since the USS Nautilus was launched the US has not had a problem and many of our aircraft carriers are nuclear if not all. Semis are going to play a critical role in not only managing the grid but controlling and monitoring alternative power sources and distribution. I have no doubt many of the technologies used in the semi world will be used to harvest power from a myriad of power differentials all around us and enable us to harvest power from areas not even known to most. Semis have revolutionized oil drilling with sensors used to discover and increase the amount of oil that can be extracted dramatically in many cases. Semis and energy, I have no doubt will be a high growth area in everything from oil to nuclear and everything in between. We have just begun to scratch the surface in the types and sources of energy all around us.
