China close to leading the world in supercomputing

A wake-up call for the US, particularly for government investment in this area.

(from ComputerWorld) Advanced computing experts at the National Security Agency and the Department of Energy are warning that China is "extremely likely" to take leadership in supercomputing as early as 2020, unless the U.S. acts quickly to increase spending.

hmm,

I thought they already had the fastest supercomputer, whom cares about that when America is already on to the next big break through Quantum computing.

Well - bragging rights on the best tend to alternate but looks like China is developing a sustainable lead because the Chinese gov is investing heavily in this area and the US gov is not. And Quantum computing? Only usable on a limited set of problems, China already has satellite-based quantum key exchange in production (ahead of the US) and is also working on QC. As is Russia very probably. No evidence US has a particular lead in that area.
